We had a bumper night at KS4 Cooking Skills Club and, continuing with our popular TikTok recipe theme, students took on the challenge of making pan-fried hash browns completely from scratch. A hugely successful session with some seriously impressive results!

We are delighted to introduce you to our Senior Prefects for this academic year.  Recognisable by the red trim on their blazers, these young leaders play an important role in supporting our school community.

Our Y9 pupils have been developing their observational drawing skills by exploring mark making with ink to capture the intricate details and textures of shells. The results were fantastic, with excellent examples demonstrating creativity, precision and attention to detail.

Our Y11 after-school intervention programme launched this week, with an impressive 66% of students attending extra GCSE support sessions. Interventions run after school Tuesday to Friday and pupils should check the in school timetable for more information.

We're collecting donations for the Salvation Army Food Bank to support local families in need.  Donations can be given to your Tutor, Head of Year or Mr Allen.  Every donation, no matter how small, will make a real difference. Thank you for your support and generosity.

KS4 Life Skills Cooking Club took on another viral TikTok recipe this week: Mama’s Crispy Chicken Wings with hot honey drizzle! They practised butchery, marinating and oven-baking techniques, discovering the secret to extra crispy wings: baking powder. Next week, something sweet!

KS4 Life Skills Cooking Club is back! Term 1's theme is Viral Recipes & Online Food Hacks, and we kicked off with Big Mac Tacos, a huge hit with pupils who couldn't wait to tuck in. Next up: chicken wings! Y9 & Y10 pupils can still sign up outside TE1 or speak to Mrs Naylor.

Assistance with the SIMS Learning Gateway

Dear Parent/Carer

In our previous letter we wrote to advise you about our new school management system (SIMS Learning Gateway) which allows you to log-in directly and keep your personal data up to date. This is a reminder that you should have logged in by now to check your personal details, and to check you are able to log in to receive your child’s reports.

I have attached an "Accessing SIMS Learning Gateway" help sheet that will guide you through the process of logging in to view your child's report. The Charles Dickens School will also be holding two informal drop in sessions to give hands on support to any parent/carer who is currently having difficulties logging in, or accessing their child's reports. These sessions will be Tuesday 17 April 9am till 11am, and Wednesday 18 April 2pm to 3:30pm
