Canterbury Cathedral Trip
Posted on: 19/04/2024Year 7 and 8 pupils visited Canterbury Cathedral and attended a workshop in the archives. They learnt about the importance of preserving historical artefacts, saw a document that was 1000 years old, and a parish register from St Lawrence’s Church in Ramsgate from the Georgian period – a period that Year 7s are currently studying. Pupils in the photograph are looking at the St Lawrence parish records from the 1700s.
Pupils went on to enjoy a guided tour of the Cathedral to learn about its importance in the development of Canterbury as a city, and as a tourist location. They also learnt about the Cathedral’s importance in medieval, and modern, history by visiting the location of Thomas Becket’s tomb. They also visited the restored wing and saw the stained-glass windows installed after bomb damage during World War II.
