Cultural Capital Days December 2023
Posted on: 14/12/2023December saw the first two of the CDS cultural capital days for the year.
Year 7s had the opportunity to attend Aladdin at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury, giving them the chance to really get into the festive spirit! Year 8s completed the Food Champions project, looking at healthy lifestyles and choices. This was complemented by the Society Makers project focusing on developing their own society, which included an engaging session with the new Mayor of Broadstairs and St Peters, Councillor Bright. The ideas that they developed for their own ideal societies were fascinating and thought provoking! It was brilliant to see them being brave and standing up to pitch their society to their tutor groups.
Year 9s ventured out into the cold for the Canterbury City Trail where they gathered a series of clues to crack a code, whilst learning about the City’s interesting history, linking to geography and history. This was complimented by pupils completing a Generosity and Places project with the history department in school, making links to the wider world by considering the important question of “what makes people happy?”. Some Year 10s had the opportunity to visit the Natural History Museum to learn about the links between history and art, whilst back at CDS the remainder of the year group looked into Buddhism, completing a carousel of activities, ranging from yoga and mindfulness, to designing and making their own Buddha Bowls, which really looked amazing!!
Finally, Year 11 completed a carousel of activities to help prepare them for their next steps as they make their preparations for the next stage of their educational journey.
A great couple of days had by all!
